BIOGRAPHY
My mother used to tell the story that, as soon as I was old enough to crawl, I would crawl underneath the stereo cabinet and listen to the music. Indeed, I can't remember a time in my life when music wasn't a big part of it.
A brief overview of my musical background:
-
When I was four years old I created a homemade drum set out of a snare drum and two toy cymbals. I wired the cymbals into a hi-hat using the base from an old music stand and wire from a coat hanger.
-
I wrote my first song in third grade, using a ukulele.
-
I started playing the trombone in fourth grade and continued playing throughout college.
-
When I was in fifth grade my dad showed me how to play a basic C-chord (triad) on the piano. I continued to experiment with chords - playing by ear - until I finally took music theory in college and learned why all of those chord progressions worked.
-
I wrote my first choir piece during college, and have continued composing music ever since. I also love to arrange church music in barbershop style.
